From exploration of the body and breath, the ancient yogis discovered that prana (life force energy) could be further subdivided into energetic components they called Vayus (winds). The five Vayus of prana all have very subtle yet distinct energetic qualities, including specific functions and directions of flow. The yogis were able to control and cultivate these Vayus by simply bringing their focus and awareness to them. Through this conscious control and cultivation, they were not only able to create optimal health and well-being but were able to activate the primordial Kundalini energy to obtain states of enlightened Samadhi.
What are the Vayus?
The Sanskrit word Vayu translates as “wind,” and the root ‘va’ translates to “that which flows.” A Vayu is an energetic force that flows in a precise direction to control bodily functions and activities. The ancient yogis found 49 distinct types of Vayus in the body. Only five of the main Vayus or Pancha Pranas are important for yoga practitioners to understand. These five primary currents of vital force are Prana-Vayu, Apana-Vayu, Samana-Vayu, Udana-Vayu, and Vyana-Vayu.
During this retreat, we will dedicate each day to dive into each Vayu.

A retreat is an effective way to restore and reset your body, mind and spirit. It will provide you with the necessary space and time to learn to quieten the excess noise of your busy mind, to slow down enough to listen to your body, in essence, to cultivate the ability to tune into the present moment.
Hatha: “Ha” means sun and “tha” means moon so the hatha practice helps us to balance our “masculine” and “feminine” aspects, finding equilibrium. During the practice you will build strength and flexibility. This asana practice cultivates focus, and helps to clear the energy pathways in the body bringing it to a sense of alignment.
Restorative: This is an opportunity for students of all levels to develop a deeper understanding of the yoga postures and their alignment. This class typically includes light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends. We practice fewer poses, and use props for support so we can completely relax and rest. Perfect for newcomers and those wishing to truly disconnect.
Pranayama & Meditation: Receiving the tools to enter a blissful state of stillness, you will be able to feel how the benefits of a consistent breathwork and meditation practice can extend throughout your day!
RETREAT HOSTS & YOGA TEACHERS
Having gathered many strings to her bow over the years studying Archaeology, Anthropology and Arabic in London, living on a sail boat, working as a veterinary assistant, travelling 2 years by car throughout Africa, practicing decorative painting and having a consistent yoga practice for the past 20 years. Ariane finally decided to settle back in Spain and has been teaching yoga in Marbella since 2006. She is certified in Hatha yoga and has completed the Anusara Immersion and Teacher Training. She also holds a certification in Thai massage and Ayurvedic studies and incorporates this knowledge into her classes.

Lori has devoted herself to moving and learning about the body for over 35 years. Certified in 2000 as a Jivamukti Yoga Instructor, since then she has trained extensively in various yoga traditions and influences including Anusara, Iyengar and Ashtanga Yoga. She is also a 500 hour certified teacher, having completed the 300-hour advanced Rasa Yoga Teacher Training with Sianna Sherman.
Lori teaches a flow-style yoga with deep respect to alignment and therapeutics. She skilfully weaves themes through her classes so that each student experiences a journey that goes beyond moving the body and instead moves deep into the heart. She teaches with sensitivity and strength inspired through the teachings of great master teachers to whom she is forever grateful.
